Brown Christmas Cookies
Brown Xmas Cookies
  • 1 1/2 cups corn syrup
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup light molasses
  • 1 cup shortening (part oleo)
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp. soda dissolved in 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp.cloves
  • 1/2 cup light molasses
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg

Mix in usual manner. Add enough flour to make a very stiff dough, one that can be rolled and cut easily. Electric mixer lugs at about 7 cups, add manually up to about 8.5 cups. Freely flower roller sheet, roller, and plastic cutters. No need to press where there isn’t pattern. Bake on greased cookie sheet at 400 degrees for about seven minutes. This can be refrigerated for days. Make a huge amount, then I often cut the recipe in half.
